“Late George S. Russell Resident Here Fifty-two Years
A pioneer resident of Victoria and the oldest member of the Masonic Order in British Colombia in point of service, George Samuel Russell passed away last night at the family residence, 825 Vancouver Street, in his eightieth year.
Mr. Russell was born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, and had resided in Victoria for fifty-two years. For more than fifty years he had belonged to the Masons, and was a member of Victoria Columbia Lodge No. 1, A.F. and A.M. He was an honorary life member of Gizeh Temple of the Shrine.
Mr. Russell is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Shield, Toronto, and Misses Florence and Mildred Russell, Victoria; two sons, George W. Russell, Victoria, and Albert L. Russell, Vancouver, and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Clark, Providence. Rhode Island, and Mrs. M. Beilin, Newport. R.I., and two grandchildren, Lois and Lysle.
Funeral services, which will be held under Masonic auspices will be announced later.”

Worshipful Brother George Samuel Russell was a native of Prince Edward Island who came to Victoria about 1884. He joined Victoria-Columbia Lodge, No. 1 in Victoria about 1886.
At the time of his death in 1936, Wor. Brother Russell's 50 years of service to the Craft made him the longest serving Freemason in British Columbia.
